If you haven’t already figured out by now, over here at InDesign K+B Brisbane we’re quite partial to kitchens and bathrooms. We pay special attention to considering every aspect of its functionality and overall look to ensure you get what you want and have it last for awhile.
We believe that bathrooms can’t just be painted like the rest of your house. In order to avoid the toll humidity takes on your walls you need to cover them with tiles. There are a smorgasbord of choices in tiles with each having its own advantages. So let’s run them down for you:
Porcelain bathroom tiles are very durable, comes in a variety of colors and textures. Porcelain is very similar to that of the ceramic tile and has a great look to it. The beauty of this tile is that it is not designed with a glaze coating so even if it chips you will not really notice it.
Ceramic tiles do sometimes come in odd shapes and sizes they are easy to clean and they don’t harbour any germs. Ceramic tiles have a great look and are highly versatile, extremely durable, easy to install; and much cheaper than its counterparts.
Marble is one of the more elegant types of bathroom tiles of choice and is one of the more expensive. What we love about marble is that any scratches or chips can easily be buffed out and it will look like new again. If you have little kids around the house these tiles may not be ideal because marble on floors are very slippery, cold to the touch and they do scratch very easily. So for everyone’s benefit (and safety) we recommend it be used as tiles on the countertops or shower walls.
If you prefer a warm, rustic bathroom then slate is something that you will LOVE. Slate is a type of stone that is cut from a rock making each tile different as no two pieces look the same. Over time you will notice a few chips here and there and it will require a special sealant to get it back right and it will need to be reapplied every few years.
Limestone is also cut from a rock and it is pitted and at times can be confused with natural slate. Although the purest limestone is white, because of impurities it can feature different colours. This must also be sealed to keep it from staining and it must be treated in order to bring out the natural tones. Limestone is quite popular with architects because of its availability, its hardness and density that will last a lifetime.
Glass mosaic is a much newer form of bathroom tile that is often used on their walls instead of the floors. It works great when the sunlight is streaming off of it and make for a perfect centerpiece when surrounded by stone. It is great for featured walls or creating a personalized work of art on your walls. With mosaic tiles you can get as creative as possible!
Glass mosaic tile is the most affordable type of all the mosaic species (Ceramic, Stone) . While choosing glass mosaics floor tile, you should pay attention to its skid resistance. Small tiles are an excellent choice for bathroom floors because the grout lines create traction for wet feet.
